8/03/2017 Log - starting new
Today was the first lecture we had as a group for Fine Arts Honors! There was a lot of information given to us, most of which is on a document provided accessible to us through the university site CANVAS. So I'm not going to list everything down because it is easily accessible for me elsewhere.
This blog site is going to be my way of collecting and presenting the research I do throughout this project.
Here are a few summaries of today's information:
Most of the work is self driven - you do have a supervisor (who will be allocated later) but we have to hold up our own projects.
Reminder to myself to read all the documents on canvas.
It is our responsibility to keep in touch with our supervisor.
Our first assignment is a proposal of our field of study - due on Monday!
All lectures will be confirmed on canvas as well as guest speakers at the Auckland Art Gallery every second week.
For our final hand in we are expected to hand in an essay and it is advised to start that essay now because it is a useful tool to develop ideas involving artwork.
There are exemplars of the essay at the library to look at!
We then went to the studios and started discussing our proposals and were told to identify 6 key words and discuss them in pairs/threes. My key words:
Colonization
National identity
Personal placement
Cultural identity
New Zealand/South Africa
Belonging
In discussion with 2 other students they suggested I look into post colonialism as well, cosmopolitical ideals. think of the fact that I might have to figure out myself and the place before I can figure out how I belong in it.
Next step is to go home, plan what I want to do and write my perposal!
